Great week for the WHS Bands!

This has been a busy, but wonderful week for the bands.  Wonderful rehearsals all around for the Symphonic Band as they prepare for the concert and upcoming Holly Days Parade.

We had a marvelous performance by the WHS Jazz Ensemble as they opened for The Shout Section Big Band at Coopers Corner on Thursday.  Mr. Vaughan and a couple of students were also able to sit in with the pros that night!

Thank you to all the parents and friends that came out to support live jazz in the suburbs.

In "Alumni News" Chloe Marshinski ('13) and Adrian Gonzales ('13) auditioned and won a spot for a stand alone feature in The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Marching Illini!

Finally, today Lauren Verdera is representing Westmont as one of the top musicians in the state at the ILMEA District 1 Senior Band Festival, hosted by Elmhurst College.

First a reminder that the forms for the wreath sales are due back no later than Monday.  Many of your students are involved in Snowball and are running out of time to sell.  Please encourage them to get a few more on the list and remember to turn the form in on Monday.

The craft show needs your help.  Below is a link to the sign up genius.  This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need your help to make it happen.  Please help where you can!

Friday, October 16, 2015

Great week!

It's been a busy week for us, but a great one!

Congrats to all who auditioned for ILMEA.  Regardless of the results, which we will find out next week, you all should be proud of the work you put in to make yourselves better musicians.

Wonderful performances by all involved in the Fine Arts Cafe on Wednesday as well.  The Jazz Ensemble has been asked to open for "The Shout Section Big Band" on November 19th.  This is a great step forward for us.  Excellent job!

Next week we have our final football game, senior night, on Friday.  Come ready to support our team one more time this year.

The game has been cancelled.  Thank you all for your flexibility.  We will be home about 6 pm, and put an end to a long day.  Great attitudes today by one and all!!!!

LISLE - FINAL INFO

The game has been moved to 5 pm still at Benedictine University.  Per Mr. Baldermann, band, football players, cheer, etc, are released at 2 pm from classes if they need to go home, eat, and/or get their equipment/uniform parts.

CALL TIME IS NOW 3:30 - IN UNIFORM.  Our estimated arrival time home should be approx. 8 pm if weather cooperates and we stay for the entire game as planned.  If there is inclement weather, we will leave for home earlier, and will update the blog.

Mr. Vaughan

LISLE UPDATES

There is a POSSIBILITY the game tonight may be moved to 5 PM.  This would put our call time at the high school at 3:30 PM.  THIS IS NOT ESTABLISHED YET!

This is beyond our control, and we will do our best to feed the students if this is the case.

I will update you as soon as I have the complete information, but please prepare for any contingency.

Thank you!!!

-Mr. Vaughan

Gameday at Lisle

The call time for the band is 5 pm in the band room, in full uniform.  Please do not call the band room asking if we are canceling due to weather.  Any changes to our itinerary will be posted here on the blog by 4:30 PM.  Our plan is to go to the game if it is being played.  We will make accommodations for woodwind instruments if needed.

As always we plan to stay for the entire game.  If weather dictates we are leaving early, we will post here, and have students contact parents.

PICTURES ARE CANCELLED

We will work together to get a picture on our own time.

THERE IS STILL REHEARSAL THIS EVENING AT 6:30

Monday, August 3, 2015

Greetings from Montreal!

Austin approves!
Several of the band members and Mr. Vaughan are along on the 2015 Canada trip with Mr. Landreth.  First day consisted of a visit to a drum circle, and a jazz club (with Jake and Elwood on top no less) so we thought it would be appropriate to post here!

As a reminder to all the parents, band fees are due on August 12th at our next rehearsal (6:30 PM).  Please remember to send a check with your student that night if you haven't done so already, as we need to order our items for the fall semester.  Again, if there are any financial troubles, please contact Mr. Vaughan and we can work it out.  No student will be denied participation based solely on financial hardship.

Looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Our next event is a rehearsal at 6:30 on Wednesday night, August 12.  Please continue to be on time with instruments out in the band room.

Rest and relax this week, but take some time to review your music and drill so you don't forget it all by the 12th.

Day 3!

Third day a success!  Over half the opener is on the field, and we are right on track with what we want to accomplish this week.

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the potluck dinner and performance for the parents.

Due an excessive number of conflicts on Friday, we will only rehearse from 8-12, and will use our time to clean the music for our performance at Northwestern on September 5th.

Tuesday, July 28, 2015

Day two is in the books!

Wonderful work on the field in sectionals.  Tomorrow we begin putting drill together for the opener.  It will be another day of high temperatures.  Please bring sunscreen and stay hydrated!!!!

Remember the potluck is on Thursday night this year!
